Sergei Sinclair Scurfield is the fifth of seven children. He is the third son of the late Ralph Thomas Scurfield and Sonia Onishenko. He was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on February 3, 1962. He has four children: two boys and two girls. His great grandfather, Thomas John Scurfield, was born in the County of Durham, England, on September 22, 1872.Thomas, and his brother Ralph, immigrated to Manitoba, Canada in the late 1800's (Ralph came to Canada in 1887 and Thomas in 1892) where they established a farm at Manitou, Manitoba. The two brothers were married to two sisters, Sarah and Margaret Milburn, also from the County of Durham, England. The Scurfield family name is unusual, and most (if not all) Scurfields are related in some way. Sergei Scurfield enjoys the hobby of genealogy, and if you share the Scurfield family name in your family tree please send a message.Sergei is also researching the following surnames which originate from the County of Durham, England: Milburn, Naisbett, Defty, Atkinson and Sheen (or Skeen). Sergei is also interested in researching the family history of his other great grandparents: John Parsons, born January 2, 1853 in Halwill, Devon, England; son of Joseph Parsons (born about 1827) of Black Torrington, Holsworthy, Devon and Ann Gay (born 1926) of Shebbear, Devon. His siblings were Fred (b. 1851); William (b. 8 March 1855); Thomas (b. 7 April 1857); Isaac (b. 6 October 1859); Elizabeth Ann (b. 24 November 1861); Mary Jane (b. 9 February 1864); Ida Ann (b. 1870); and Ann (b. 1872/73).Mr. John Parsons, was most probably a farm labourer from Devon, England, who immigrated to Canada around 1882-1887 where he found work in Winnipeg as a coachman for an army officer. It was here that he met and later married Marie Jensen, who was a Danish cook for the household. They moved to Queen's Valley, Manitoba in 1889 to a homestead that had been given up by his brother Fred. They had a family of six: Edith (b. 13 December 1889); Alfred (b. 25 December 1892); Ann (b. 1 November 1895); Emil (b. 1 May 1898); and Katherine (b. 12 August 1901). They both died in St. Boniface, Manitoba: Marie Parsons died December 13, 1917, and John Parsons passed away June 19, 1936.I would appreciate any information about John Parsons' ancestors and/or family in Devon. Sergei's maternal grandparents are John (Evon) Onishenko, born in the Ukraine on November 10, 1896, and Mary (Motia) Stupka, born in Russia on March 10, 1900. They seperately immigrated to Canada in the early 1900's, and met each other after becoming settled in Canada. They were married in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on June 21, 1919. John Onishenko died in Edmonton, Alberta on 9 June 1959. Sergei's grandmother passed away in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 102, on 8 May 2002. Mary Onishenko is survived by over 50 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
