Herod Burks was born on March 3, 1795 at Pendelton County, South Carolina.He was a son of Samuel Burks and Patience ?.Herod moved to Rutherford County, Tennessee with his parents in about 1806.He married Cynthia Prater about 1822 and they had eleven children.Herod died about 1886, he is buried by his wife in the Burks Cemetery, Burks Hollow, Rutherford County, Tennessee
