Notes for Charlemagne:
Charlemagne was known as Charles the Great. He was King of the Franks
from 768-814 and Roman Emperor from 800-814. He is buried at the church of
St. Mary at Aix. One daughter Bertha married Angelbert and had a child, Nithard
and another daughter Rotruda (d.810) married Count Ronic and had Louis, Abbot
of St. Denis. Their mothers are not known. Charlemagne had 5 known wives and
five concubines. Charlemagne also had a child Theodoric by his concubine
Adelinda and a daughter Gisela by an unknown concubine.
