Antone Woyak
Antone Woyak, 77, 2450 Willow Drive, Plover, died Sunday evening, April 5, 1998, at St. Michael's Hospital after being in ill health.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Custer, the Rev. Stevens Kachel officiating.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. today at the Shuda Funeral Chapel.
The American Legion Post No. 6, of which he was a member, will have a ritual at 6:30 p.m. Also, there will be a Bible vigil at 7 p.m.
Mr. Woyak was born April 25, 1920, in Whiting, the son of John and Anna (Nowak) Woyak.
As a child, his family moved to Detroit. When he was a teen-ager, the family returned to the Portage County area.
He entered the U.S. Navy on July 18, 1942, in Detroit. He served as a motor machinist 1st Class on the USS LST487. HE received the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He received an honorable discharge on Dec. 8, 1945, in San Pedro, Calif.
He returned to Portage County and was married to Mildred Kjer on Aug 21, 1948, in Lanark. The couple resided on Highway J from the 1950s until the last two years.
Mr. Woyak worked as a truck driver for Erickson Oil Co. until retirement in 1976.
He enjoyed bowling, golf, pitching horseshoes, playing pinochle and sheepshead and was an avid baseball and football fan.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Paul (Alana), Plover, David (Nancy), Ashaway, R.I., Mark, (Sarah), Pace, Fla.; three daughters, Christine Kurth, Plymouth, Mich., Susan (Jerry) Sevolt, Watertown, N.Y., Mary (Butch) Yach, Stevens Point; 17 grandchildren, one half sister, Hattie Patoka, Stevens Point; one half brother, Frank Jurak, Detroit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
