It was the most popular of these at the outbreak of the Rev. war. It was at Wall and Water. Corneliusmoved to Rhinebeck, NY when the English took over NY city. He was a warm patriot and he went out with the American army on its retreat and he remained near Rhinebeck.On 17 Oct 1783, he returned and opened the Merchants Coffee House again.He also establishedin 1784, the lst Marine Lists ever published and kept of NY from which newspaper notices daily were taken and he opened a register where "gentlemen and merchants" were requested to enter name and address, this was 1st approach to City directory:Ref: Refugees from Long Island to Connecticut 1776. He was also a Pewterer and some of his work can be found in the Metropolitan Museum in New York City.
