I am researching the Snapp family originating in Sevier County, Tennessee and prior to that in Shenandoah County, Virginia descended from John Snapp (Johannes Schnepp) b. 1695 and his son Lawrence Snapp (Lorentz Schnepp) b. 1723 who came to Philadelphia in 1733 aboard the immigrant ship Samuel settling shortly thereafter in the Opequon settlement of Jost Hite near present day Stephens City, VA. I am indebted to my mother, Irene, and a cousin, Nora Lee Denton Seahorn for the research they did over 25 years ago which provided me a link to the past. Also to a cousin, Dennis L. Snapp for providing me the link from Tennesse to Virginia and to Daniel Bly whose fine book "From the Rhine to the Shenandoah" provided me the link to the "old" country.I would also like to acknowledge these Snapp family researchers who have graciously shared their findings with me: Glenn Schultz, Sherry Smith, Jacob Lynn Snapp, Charlotte Snapp, Judy Legg and Ferne Kellow. I am also researching the following surnames from my father's line: Bork, Ahrnkiel, Henderson, McMahan, Bitner & Calvert. From my mother's line: Becker, Kohn, Huberty and Hoffman. I would greatly appreciate any corrections or additions you may have.Enjoy.
