Notes for CHARLES MALIN CLIFTON SORBY: Charles Malin Clifton Sorby was born on the 23 Feb 1895,the 1st son and 2nd child of Canon Albert Ernest Sorby (Vicar of Darfield, Yorkshire) and Lydia Jane (nee Walker) daughter of Charles Hay Walker and Lydia Jane (nee Fairweather). During WW 1 Charles Malin achieved a rank of 2nd Lieutenant with the 3rd Battalion of the Monmouthshire Regiment. He died at the age of 20 on the 8th of May 1915 from several wounds to the abdomen sustained the day before on 7th of May 1915 during the 2nd battle for for the Flemish town of Ypres in Belgium located close to theFrench border (aka Wipers and now known as Ieper). He died towards the conclusion of that long drawn-out balltle for that wretched town which by wars end was completely demolished.
