James Sproull (b. 1755, d. April 16, 1821)James Sproull (son of William Sproull and Martha Brown) was born 1755 in County Tyrone, Ireleand, and died April 16, 1821 in Freeport, PA.He married (1) Wilson?.He married (2) Jane McMullen on 1794.
Notes for James Sproull:
"In Ireland, James and his brother William were powers in fights with the Popish when they met at fairs. It was no uncommonthing, for them to drive off the field, a score for them. They fought with clubs and shileahs"Came to America the same year of his first marriage.
He was buried in old 4th St. Cemetery of Freeport, PA, then in the 1920's was removed and reinterred in the Oak Ridge Cemetery alongside the present Freeport Cemetery. The headstone inscriptions are entirely legible - vis "James Sproull who departed this life, Apr 16, 1821, in the 66th year of his life"
I have searched through the entire cemetery looking for his (their) gravesite, but have been unsuccessful.I was told that some of the gravestones had been removed after falling. But I did have a copy of the article in the "Freeport Journal" from October 30, 1903 stating " (referring to their headstones) Those of James Sproull and Jane his wife, standing since 1821 are almost as good."The author wrote that the best stone in the grave yard was John Weaver's made of common sand stone.

James came to America prior to the Revolutionary War and settled in Alleghenty Twp. Westmoreland County.
