Notes for DANIEL FLOYD WEVER: Dan Wever wrote on 12 Dec 2002:"Pat, Was reading your comments and material about Charles Floyd's linage and remembered something about my grandfather. (John Nathaniel Floyd 1887-1973).We were studying the Lewis and Clark story in grade school I think I was about 11 years old thus about 1949.My grandfather was visiting from Kansas and I remember him sitting in a big chair and looking at my school books. My homework was to write a report on the L and C trip.I can still hear him saying it."I had a cousin that was with Lewis and Clark and he died on the Journey." I don't remember any thing else that was said but I do remember that. This of course if true would add to your theory about Charles's parents as if he were the son of Charles he would have been an Uncle to my grandfather rather than a cousin.Thought I would let you know this for what it is worth.Regards and Merry Christmas,Dan Floyd Wever <fwever1@elp.rr.com> |

284.OTIS9 BLACKWELL (GEORGE WESLEY8, MARY S.7FLOYD, JOHN WESLEY6, CHARLES5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, CHARLES2, JOHN1)2536 was born Abt. 1874 in IL?2537.He married ELLEN F. CROCKER2538.She was born Abt. 18762539.
Notes for OTIS BLACKWELL:
"George Wesley Blackwell was the son of Moses W. & Mary S. (Floyd)
Otis Blackwell was the son of George W. & Mary E. (Nichols)
and, Harold Wesley Blackwell was the son of Otis and Ellen F. (Crocker).
"I had thought too that Mary's (Mary S. Floyd) middle name was probably Stewart after her grandmother.I've noticed this common practice/pattern in naming children:In addition to the middle name of "Wesley", and the surnames of "Warren" and "Ingalls", the "Crocker" name is also often carried forward as a middle name.
"I've not found the graves for Moses or Mary (they are not with George and Otis in Caryle, IL(even though Moses' brother John P./& John's wife Mary Ashley are w/George) so I have wondered if they are in the same graveyard with Mary's family - John Wesley Floyd (at Wisetown, IL).
"My most difficult challenge is to locate the Blackwell family to whom Moses (b. 1814) is related. The census records indicate that he was from North Carolina, but I'm not yet proficient enough to tie him to a particular East Coast family.I've assumed that he must be from a prominent family, both he and his brother (John P.- b. 1809) had enough money to purchase land in Illinois (1836) and that Moses married into a prominent (Floyd/Stewart) family."Marie Kral, <kraldg@sbcglobal.net>, September 2006, kindly wrote me.
