Stovers West
Stovers West
Updated May 26, 2005This branch of the Stover family came from Staffort, Germany in 1737, settling in Pennsylvania. After the epidemics of the early 1800s, Jacob H. Stover, an orphan, who's only brother was killed at age 20 in an accident, left Pa., with a young bride, Rebecca Hess, and went to Iowa. They remained there for a few years, raising a family, then Jacob H. and his two sons followed the gold trail overland to California. Jacob, after a year, returned to Iowa, then later took the family on to Wisconsin where he lived out his life. His two sons, while not becoming rich on gold, did amass a considerable amount of wealth in the cattle business and founded ranches that endured for more then a 100 years in northern California. Hopefully the information in these pages will assist others in their search. Along with the Stover name, I am researching ADAMS, BIRCHETT, BROWN, HESS, CUMMIN[G]S, MOORE,CLEVELAND, SNOW, HUBLER, WOLF, and many others. Will gladly share information. Always re-confirm information before using it. If you have any comments or find any errors, please notify me.Revised Aug 2004 | |
