This shipyard is where Harold Stotzer worked as a welder from mid- 1943 to mid-1946.He and my mother and brother thus arrived in time to see this ship, the ice breaker Southwind, launched in July 1944. During and after WWII, the yard built "Wind class" icebreakers, "Owasco class" Coast Guard cutters, Destroyer Escorts, Land Ship Mediums (LSMs) coastal oilers and various types of un-powered barges. |
