John Tyler was a carpenter that came from England with his wife Elizabeth Littleton and settled at the Tyler homestead known as Horse Hammock, located about 4 miles south-east of present day Tylerton.
After his 1st. wife died, he moved to Annamessex (Crisfield). There he met and married his 2nd. wife,Alcy Butler and left his homestead at Horse Hammock to his eldest son John Jr. and his family
