Levi served in the Revolutionary War in the 2nd Artillary Regement, Continental Troops. He enlisted on 11/16/1779 and served until 5/26/1783.
Levi's last Will and Testament gives the dispensation of his belongings and is dated 6/10/1818.An inventory of his property for the settlement of his will is dated 9/22/1818.His will mentions his wife, Ruth, to whom he leaves the plantation, his two daughters, Margaret and Mary, still at home, his son, Samuel, who is to live in the home and work the land as long as he takes care of his mother, and his sons, Levi and Noah, who are executors of the will.
Levi dies owning a 330 acre tract of land originally granted to himself and Peleg Bishop and Lemuel Tilson. He purchased their interest in the land in 1804 (Washington Co. deedbook 3, p393)After the death of their mother, Ruth, in 1828, the land was sold by ten of the children.Adjoining neighbors George and Robert Gollihorn bought the interests of eight of the children, Levi Jr. bought the other two.The sale of the land as recorded in the deedbooks gives the names of the children.Mary, not listed in the land sale records, is thought to have died pror to the death of her mother, Ruth. This ment the land was devided 11 ways instead of 12.The Gollihorns became owners of 240 acres of what was known as "the Bishop tract of land".The land became part of Smyth Co. in 1832.

There were 2 Joseph Bishops, perhaps cousin, issued marriage licenses in Washington Co, Va on Dec 10, 1795.One married Margaret Curren, the other Jane Johnston.A bible lists their daughter as Rebecca, doubtlessly an infant when her mother died, named her daughter Margaret.

Continental Army commanded by Col. Charles Harrison.Enlisted Jan 30, 1777 for 3 years.Last shown on a payroll for March 1780.
