James Russell Fisher (b. 14 May 1896, d. 19 Feb 1995)
Notes for James Russell Fisher:
Jim Fisher was a highly personable man on the surface. He was a salesman and typical of that workforce.
But he was (at least by 20th Century liberal culture, a highly bigoted individual. Among family and friends he was openly racist and genuinely thought that the folks he called "niggers" were not truly human, or at best sub-human.
Jim Fisher once lay in wait to shoot me (Rev. Robert Henry Tonkins) with my own single-shot .357 Magnum pistol I had designed and built. This was in my own trailer home in Hanoverton, Ohio. He was prevented by my (then) wife Carol (his daughter) who noticed the pistol under his rump in the chair in which he lay in wait. Jim was doing this in reaction to Rev. Tonkins assertion that Jim "had a soul blacker than any black man alive."
This combativeness when (as he saw it) Jim was pressured resulted in altercation that followed Jim even into his final days in a nursing home in which he actually engaged in physical confrontations.
Not exactly salt-of-the-Earth by modern standards.
