Notes for Mary (Ducie) Quinlin:
About my great grandmother, on my dad's side, who started this tree, she was always referred to as granny and lived with my grandmother and grandfather. She used to sole shoes and smoke a white clay pipe. When she died at 92, I believe the same day a kid from the neighborhood came over for a pair of shoes for her to do.Just to show you what a game old girl she was, my mother used to trade, during the war, stuff with my grandmother, like eggs, cheese and butter, etc. because we had a large family and a lot of rationing books. One day during the war, I went over to my grandmother's place with a wheelbarrow. It was quite a few miles away from old Barrow Island to Roose, where they lived, and the next day Granny and I pushed that wheelbarrow, which was full of coke (for the fireplace) all the way home to Barrow Island where I lived, and on the way she stopped at every pub, starting with the Sandgate, entering the women's room for a little shot.
