The intent is to provide a means for researchers of the SHELBY surname to share their data - from any location and any time frame. THE SHELBY EXCHANGE is also a quarterly newsletter [4 issues, 24-26pp each issue]. Available by snail mail only. Drop a line for more information. The SHELBY family, as we know it, got its start in Tregaron, Cardinganshire, (now Dyfed) Wales in 1709. Before this date it was SELBY. The SHELBYs arrived in Pennsylvania by 1735, purchasing land in Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania. They had a daughter Mary Baptised in the Christ Church in Philadelphia in 1735. By 1739 they were in Maryland, and are now scattered throughout every State in the Union! Evan SHELBY and his wife, Catherine MORGAN are the ancestors of most of the known SHELBYs in the USA.But have also discovered branches in Ireland that settled in various parts of Ohio in the early 1800s. The SHELBYs were a prolific family, with many of them playing a major role in the early history of our country. [Not all SHELBYs wore halo's :-)] Despite the fact that I have what is probably one of the largest private collections on SHELBYs to be had, it amazes me at how much continues to be discovered!
