Note: Immigrated with his wife and six children in a group of 170 fromScotland, arriving on the "Prince of Wales" at Savannah, Ga. January,1736. Left there in February and established the town of "Darien" on theAltamaha River about 25 miles south of Savannah. Two more children wereborn in Georgia. He took, part in an attack on St. Augustine, Fl. in thefall of 1739 and was taken prisoner by the Spanish. His original name wassaid to be "John Mackintosh Mohr", the word "Mohr" being similar to atitle, meaning "Leader", or "the great".
