William was born in Wales in 1635 or 1636.Most likely late 1635.He was christened in Wales in 1636 and on August 30, 1650 landed in VA at the age of 15.He worked his way over on the ship and because he was a good sailor, in 1651 was appointed one of the river pilots on the James River by the Royal Governor of the VA colony.
