The Vergolinis of Supino, Italy and Michigan, U.S.A.
This site is dedicated to the memory of my Father, Virgilio Vergolini. It is also dedicated to all the decendants of Marco Cerilli and Caterina Nalli. A lot of sleepless nights went into the making of this family tree. For those folks who are doing their own tree, there is no need to go into the details of all the hard work involved. Along the way there have been many road blocks, but the rewards have been exciting. The one thing that can make this more complete is to find just one or two names to enter on my Fathers' side of the tree. With that in mind, I will be going to Italy to try and make that happen. for all my first cousins out there. Please submit your branch of the tree. I have recently found the year and the ship that my Dad took to America for the first time..The year was 1912. The name of the ship was Duca D'Aosta. He arrived at Ellis Island on April 15, 1912. Dad was nineteen years old and single. He stayed approxitmitly seven years before returning to Italy and marry my Mom in December of 1919. The Duca D'Aosta was scrapped in 1929. The reason I was having trouble finding this information was due to the fact that Dads' surname was spelled differently. But, I was able to get the information from the manifest of the Guiseppi Verdi. There is a box on the manifest that asks if the person has ever been to America and what years. He wrote in the years 1912 to 1919. He then came back to America in 1921. The name of the ship was Giuseppi Verdi..i was also able to abtain the passenger manifest and the doctors affidavid attesting to the health of the immigrants aboard ship..The Guiseppi Verdi was in service from 1914 until 1928..It was sold to the Japanese flag in 1928 and renamed the Yamato Maru..It was later sunk by an Americansubmarine in the Philippines in 1943..Many thanks go to the people at the LDS for making these records available on the Ellis Island web site. They deserve a lot of praise and thanks for all the effort that has gone into this project.. I owe many thanks to Barbara D., aka Jiba, of Rhode Island who was a great inspiration to me on getting started in this project..without her guidence i would not have found the web sites to do the searches that most of the information came from...I cannot begin to repay your kindness.. I have recently returned from the trip to Italy..Although I did meet with a gentleman by the surname of Vergolini, he could not shed any light to my quest..He was most gracious, and we did have a wonderful dinner togother..The search continues..Perhapsthe next trip will bear better results..The trip was not a total failure, for I got to visit with my living relatives.. I am researching the following surnames: Nalli Giannetti Cerilli Ciolli Merpi Faraone Spaziani Vergolini | The Vergolinis of Supino, Italy and Michigan, U.S.A. Updated January 31, 2012 |
