OUR RUCKER LINE
The Rücker/Rucker/Ruecker family line starts with Johann Rücker death in 1514 in Rothenburg, Germany. He was the Mayor/Burgermeister of Rothenburg odT so we can assume the family lived there for some time. Most of the early family records were destroyed in an earthquake that took place in the 1700's.
The family immigrated to Latvia in 1757 to be teachers and Priests. From 1772-1791 Ludwig Nikolaus Rücker (1736-1791) was the Pastor to Klein-St.Jacob's. His son Franz Ludwig von Rücker (1769-1860) from 1791-1851 Pastor u. Propst zu Klein-St.Jacob's. On October 24, 1841 he was given the Russian hereditary nobility by czar Nickolaus.
His son Otto Georg von Rücker (1810-1878) had 8 children and- was a banker. His youngest son Edgar Otto von Rücker (1862-1937) had an estate called Unnipicht outside of Dorpat (Tartu) Estonia with his wife Eva-Johanna Emmy von Heyden. He was Grunder u. Dir. d. Telephone-Ges in Estonia and ran the main bank in Riga and also seemed to manage the affairs of many of the town’s senators. On March 16, 1911 he received immatr.b.d. livlnd. Rrschaft, s.o. (enrolled as one of the Livonian knights)
His son, my grandfather, Reimar Nicolaus Ludwig (Klaus) von Rücker (1908-1991, born in Bilderlingshof, Latvia) left Latvia due WW1 because the Russians takeover. The family was forced to leave their property in Riga and their land in Unnipicht. Only to return prior to WW2 to leave again. My grandfather returned one last time in 1990 to see his childhood homes all in disarray.
The family moved to Berlin during WW1. Later, after WW2, Klause moved his family from Munich to Montreal Canada then to South Bend, Indian USA where he worked for Studabacker as Chief Engineer. In 1954, he moved the family back to Munich where he was Director of Eng for Porsche, BMW and Audi over the year.
Today, the known relationslive in Bonn and Munich, Germany – Milwaukee WS (Haak) & St. Louis MO USA. I became acquainted with Ulrike von Ruecker, a distant relative (13x removed cousin) now living in Cairo, Egypt and with Bernd von Westberg (5x removed cousin from the Bockslaf/Poelchau side).
My research also includes my mother's madden name which is CZIHARZ, CZIHARSCH, TSCHYHARZ, KAIL. The family origin is Czechoslovakian and Austrian. Today, relations live in Bonn, Germany (Brohman), St. Louis, MO USA (von Ruecker), and Wellington, New Zeeland.
OTHER RUCKER INFORMATION
The name Ruegger originated verbally from the old high-German, personal name "Hrodgar" (from hrod, in old northern language hrodr - sound, renown) from which came next Rogger as the family name, and after that, according to use of language, time and country, Rudiger, Rugger, Ruediger, Rueger, Rucker, Rugger and Ruegger. (See Heintze, The German Family Names, Page 146.)
The Ruggers (Rueggers) or Rueckers are an old Swabian family, which apparently had settled in Bluuthal by the thirteenth century. That the Minnesinger Heinrich von Rugge can be claimed as ancestor is an open question, as proof cannot be found
NICOLAUS RUECKER, teacher of both branches of law, and ANDREAS RUECKER, high-secretary of the Archbishop of Mayence (Mainz) on July 25, 1545, received a letter of nobility and coat of arms from Emperor Karl V. This was lost in the disturbances of later times, and the brothers FRIEDRICH and FRANZ RUGGER reached nobility otherwise in 1620.
The first person to carry the coat of arms was MICHAEL RUECKER, doctor of medicine of Wiesensteig. Elected in 1534 as Rector of Tuebingen, he remained five terms in the same office, and died October 9, 1561, in Tuebingen.
DANIEL RUECKER, born on February 1, 1605 at Rotenburg on the Tauber, was Professor in Marburg. Later he was Superintendent in Aschaffenburg and Court-Chaplain to Duke Bernhard of Sachsen-Weimar, and lastly Superintendent in his home city.
More to come.
