Edward Bennett sailed from Weynouth, Malcombe-Regis Dorset, England to Weymouth Massachusetts with his wife and four children in 1636.There he took up as he was entitled thirty-six acres of public land.He was made a freeman in 1636.After a residence there for seven years he became an original proprietor in the company that founded Rehoboth, MA to which place he removed in 1643 with a certain Rev. Newman.He died at Rehoboth in 1645, an original proprietor wealthy, and was buried in Proprietor's Cemetery

Newman's Company and became one of the original proprietors of that part of Rehoboth, MA called Seakonk, Near Providence, RI and moving there with his family in 1643.He died in 1645/46.

John Bennett moved to CT in 1656, when he was 26.He traveled about 50 miles southwest from Rehoboth, across the state of RI, to the southeast corner of CT, where there was a pleasant valley and saltwater cove on Lond Island Sound.The land had belonged to tha Pequot Indians who were massacred in 1637 by the Narragansetts and whites.William Cheeseborough of Rehoboth was the first settler at a place called Wequetequock in the Mystic-Pawcatuk area.By 1668 there were 43 heads of families, including John Bennett, who drew lots for homesites in the village
