William Alexander Wright (b. 1892, d. 1915)
Notes for William Alexander Wright:
Joined army in 1914, having been in the Ardeer equivalent of territorials. On the first day of the Battle of Loos, he was wounded. Gave his pocket book to an orderly and requested it to be sent to his family in Ayrshire. Was thought to be a prisoner, but he died. Without his pocket book, body was not identified. No grave, but name recorded on the memorial at Loos. Name was never mentioned to his great niece, Helen Wright. Every New Year his brother, Anthony would sing a song about a dying soldier asking for a letter to be taken to his family in Ayrshire.
