He was the first child born to Elizabeth Marie Higdon Walker and Rollie Jeff Walker, Jr.Shortly after his birth, his family moved from 322 E. 5th Street, in Owensboro, to 1714 Bluff Avenue, Owensboro.Michael attended Blessed Mother Catholic School for grades 1-3.At age ten, his family moved to 1750 Sioux Place in Owensboro and Michael transferred to the Immaculate Conception School for grades 4-8.He enrolled in Owensboro Catholic High School as a freshman in 1963 and graduated from there in June 1967 ranked 30th in a class of 300.He then moved to Lexington, KY and attended the University of Kentucky for one year, majoring in English with a minor in Journalism.At the end of his first year, Michael transferred to Brescia College in Owensboro, studying Education, focusing on the field of Special Education.Michael married Victoria Lynn Thompson of Owensboro at St. Stephen's Cathedral in 1969 and the couple had a daughter, Mischelle Marie Walker born on 10 Sep 1970.
At this point, Michael was eligible for the draft and chose instead to enlist in the US Navy Reserve.He went to active duty for training at Naval Station, Great Lakes, Ill.He then was assigned to the US Amphibious Naval Base at Little Creek, Va and from there, to the USS Belknap (DLG26) until his enlistment was up in 1972.While aboard the Belknap, he visited in Nova Scotia, Puerto Rico, Greece, Spain, Italy, France and several Greek Islands.
Upon return from duty with the Navy, Michael enrolled once again at Brescia College.He and Victoria were divorced in 1973 and he moved to Montgomery, AL and enrolled at Auburn University at Montgomery where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1976.He went on and was awarded a Master's Degree in Education Administration in 1979 from AUM.
Michael married Mary Ann Cranfield in 1974 and the couple had three children.Michael Jeffery Walker, Jr. b. 10 Feb 1978, Jennifer Lynn Walker, b. 23 Nov, 1979, and John Gordon Walker, b. 23 Oct 1981.
He went to work for the Montgomery Public School system in 1976 as a 5th grade teacher at Highland Gardens Elementary School.He was transferred in 1978 to Brewbaker Elementary and worked there as a 5th and 6th grade teacher until 1980.At that point, he left education and worked as a Real Estate agent for 18 months.He returned to Brewbaker in 1981 and picked up his teaching career.In 1984 he was named as Assistant Principal at Wares Ferry Road Elementary School.
In 1990 he and Mary divorced and he married Ramona Lynn Colquitt in 1991. They have two sons, David Alex Walker, b. 15 Aug 1995 and William Travis Walker, b.May 22, 2002.
in 1990, Michael was promoted to Principal at Harrison Elementary School in Montgomery, and in 1993 he was transferred back to Wares Ferry Elementary to take over as Principal there.In July of 2003, he was transferred to William Silas Garrett Elementary School in Montgomery and currently serves as principal there.
