On September 18, 1874, David M. Ward and Stephen V. Wilkerson (Wilkinson) purchased 150 acres of land southwest of Columbia.They paid $300 for the property in the Leatherwood township.On May 3, 1881 "...David M. Ward and Rosina Victoria Ward his wife of the county of Adair state of Kentucky of the first part and Josiah Hunter of the county and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that for an(d) in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollarsto the said David M Ward and wife in hand paid by the said Josiah Hunter they have this day sold and hereby convey unto the said Hunter and his heirs forever a certain tract of parcel of land in said county of Adair whereon said Ward family formerly lived and the same he bouth of Robert Cambell and wife and said Deed from Campbell and wife to said Ward is recorded in the clerk's office of said county in Deed Book H page 223 and is bounded as follows viz Beginning at a white corner to a division of landbetween said Ward and George Campbell thence with said Division line H69 1/2 E 99 poles passing the spring to a Chesnut oak and 2 hickories an(d) other division corner thence with an old line of the original survey A 17 E 166 poles to a corner of said surveyof 150 acres old survey thence S 17 W 62 with said old line to the beginning containing sixty nine and 1/4 acres more or less to have and to hold said tract of land with all its appentenances there;unto belonging unto the said Hunter his heirs and assigns forever and the said David M Ward and Rosina Victoria Ward hereby covenant and agree to warrant and defend the title of said land to the said against the claim or claims of all and every person or person what soever and for the full performance of the same the said David M Ward and Rosina Victoria Ward his wife and each hereunto set there hands and affixed their seals this day and year first above written."(Signed)David M WardRosinah Ward

A letter found in a file in the Columbia City library from Mrs. O. D. Ward1407 N. Villa Dr.Evansville, Indiana contained information that David M Ward, his wife and family moved to Texas and settled on a claim.The letter writer was the wife of Denton Ward, grand-son of David.She had written the letter 6/7/63 to the Adair County Clerk requesting information.
According to an article in the Rockwall County History located in the Rockwall Library David and Rosanah moved to Rockwall in the 1880s.The Article reads in part:"Rosinah Victoria Wilkinson, born in 1847, was married in 1871, Adair County, Kentucky, to David M. Ward.They came to Texas after June 1880 where their last five of twelve children were born.They first lived in Royse City where two children were born in 1882 and 1884 then moved to Quannah in Hardeman County where they lived in 1900 then to Oklahoma.David Ward Died 1919 and is buried in Hollis, Oklahoma.Rosinah later moved to Portland, Oregon, where she died in 1937 at age 90 and where her son, Steven, still lived in 1982 at age 97.
