Biograpy of James Webb
James Webb was the son of Richard and Sarah Webb of Canterbury, Kent, England.
Richard was a Farmer, and Sarah a Domestic.
James sailed to Australia in approx 1854, his occupation at that time was a Sawyer (in the timber industry). His abode was at Stoney Creek, Singleton, Patrick Plains, NSW.
James met Ellen Purse, who had been previously married to Thomas Gibson. Thomas and Ellen had one daughter who died as an infant, possibly in Belfast, Ireland, where Ellen came from prior to coming to Australia.
James' first marriage took place at the Presbyterian Church, Hunter St, Singleton, on 14 March 1861. (The church has since been demolished). They were married according to the rites of Scotland in that church.Ellen's occupation was as a servant. The witnesses were Walter Rotton, a leading business man, and Mary Ann Brookes.James was 26, and Ellen 29.

Their first child, a daughter, was Emma Ann Webb and was born on Feb 5th, 1862.
Birth Registration No: 11994. Emma Ann Webb was baptised on 30 August 1862, but died as an infant.
At the time of Ellen's death on 29 March, 1890, aged 54, Ellen and James had three children living.
These were:Charles, 25 years - born 1866,James, 22 years - born 1869 and Margaret, 18 years - born 28 August 1872.Margaret was born at 177 Forbes St, Waterloo, Sydney.
At the time of Ellen's death, there was 1 male and 2 females deceased from that marriage.
Ellen was buried at Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney, Australia.Reference No: 100490.There was no headstone erected.
After the death of Ellen, James Webb married Jannetta Pope.This was the second marriage for both.
Jannetta came from Bath, England and was the daughter of a Butcher.
They were married at the Registry Office in Newtown, Sydney on 5 July 1890.He was 52 and she 39.
From this marriage, there were three children:
Richard Thomas Webb - born 15 April 1891
Louisa Webb - born 1893.
Nellie Emma Webb - born 1894.
They lived at 126 Regent St, Camperdown, NSW.
James Webb's occupation was a Lettercarrier (postman).
Jannetta died aged 61 on 1 December, 1910 and James Webb died on 22 April, 1911 aged 73.
He was buried alongside his wife Jannetta at the Church of England section, Rookwood Cemetary, NSW.Section T,Grave No 8017. Headstone still standing.
