Notes for JOHN WEBB:
(Note From [email protected] (Rose E Webb)- Mike Webb of Florida-)
William(Sr.) is listed in John Webb's ( My gggg-grandfather) will
dated 27 April 1815 as John's son.The will lists the other living
children as George, Peggy,Elizabeth and Pleasant (my
ggg-grandfather).
The parents of John; however, are unproven. There werea William,
John and Julius Webb in the area and a reference to a James Webb, but
no one claims paternity in the records I have found. It might be
because a John Webb was indicted for getting Elizabeth Snodgrass with
child on May 8,1770 and she was held for having a base child on
March 12, 1771, although the case against her was dismissed on March
9, 1773.Maybe they got married?( But I haven't a marriage).The
things we find when we look under the rug.
A lot of the people in that area came down the valley from
Pennsylvania, but I never got around to looking there.

The Last Will and Testament of John Webb
In the name of God, amen. I John Webb of the county of Giles and state of Virginia, being very sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory. Thanks be to God for His mercy and calling into mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed unto men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament.
Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian manner at the descretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but I shall receive it again by the mighty power of God at the great and general resurrection of the quick and the dead. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with, in this life, I give and dispose of in the following manner, and form towit: First I give and bequeath to my son George Webb my mill and land belonging thereto containing about thirty acres freely to be possessed and enjoyed by Him. I also give to Isaiah Givins, my son in law ten shillings out of my estate to be sold as hereafter mentioned. To be paid to Him by my Executor.
I also give to Peggy Holstine, my daughter, wife of Henry Holstine Jr., ten shillings. I also give and bequeath to my son William Webb all the upper end of this my land, and plantation whereon I now live. Namely from a whiteoak standing by the cross fence above the orchard and from thence to two white oaks near the branch below the meadow where James Wilson now lives and thence with the branch to George Webb's line and from the first herein mentioned straight to a white osk and two small chestnuts out of one root, and from the boundry already mentioned all the land that is in said tract above said lines, direct freely to be possessed and enjoyed by Him.
I also give and bequeath to my son Pleasant Webb all lower end of this , my tract of land from the division line of William Webb to the lower end of said tract as lines shall direct freely to be possessed by Him. Also two cows and my waggon, which waggon and cows also to be freely posessed and enjoyed by Him, also my Rifle gun, and my largest pot also a small pot to be freely possessed and enjoyed by Him, said Pleasant.
I also will and direct that all the rest os my moveable effects, and all and every part and particle thereof in anywise in my name, and by me owned be carefully collected and gathered togethere and the same sold by fair and open sale and the amount of the same to be truely and faithfully given to my youngest daughter Elizabeth when she may, or shall, come to full and lawful age only that my just debts be paid of the same.
I also will and direct that Essebella Carr keep free and peacable possession of as much land around where she doth now reside as She shall think sufficient for Her, and Her (force?) to attend for Her own and for Her childrens benefit until they all come of age and to have the house and cleared land whereon she now resides until that time and then the same to fall to my son Pleasant as above willes. I also will to James Wilson one dollar to be paid out of my above estate. I also decree and appoint Isaiah Givens and William Webb Executors to this my last will and testament and to retify and confirm this and only this to by my last will and testament and revoke and make void all other former wills and testaments in anywise heretofore made by me pronouncing and declaring this and only this to be my last will and testament in which whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentyseventh day of April eighteen hundred and fifteen
