| The earliest WHITELEY on my tree is Maria, mother of Ishmael whose baptismal entry is in the registers of St Mary's Church, Elland, born about 1813 died 1 March 1852. Maria married John Iredale and she is buried in the graveyard of Providence Chapel, Stainland, as is my Great Grandfather Ishmael Whiteley, Grandfather Ben Whiteley and other relatives. A Will written by Elizabeth Iredale in July 1920 refers to her brother Ishmael Whiteley and others so the Iredales and Whiteleys were very closely linked. Some census entries refer to Ishmael Iredale and others to Ishmael Whiteley though it is obviously the same person because of the children's names, dates and addresses. This makes the tree even more interesting to me. | |
