Notes for Bedford Pim Butler:
There are records of Bedford Pim Butler being on multiple New Zealand electoral rolls in the same year between 1867 to 1871. For example in 1867-68 he lived at Alexandria New Zealand and was on the roll for both the Goldfields Towns Electorate and for the Dunstan District. In 1870-71 he was on the list for Dunstan District twice and on the Goldfields Towns electorate once.
About that time in Australia only men who owned land above a particular value were entitled to vote and the more lots of land they owned , the more votes they had.
There were other requirements to vote initially
aged at least 21 years old
owners of land worth at least £50, or payers of a certain amount of Yearly rental (£10 for farmland or a city house, or £5 for a rural house)
The requirement for property ownership was not removed until 1879 with one 1860 exception. The 1860 franchise system waived the property qualification for anyone who had a miners licence.
