Williams family and other related Surnames:Information about John Key
John Key (b. July 11, 1630, d. date unknown)

BIRTH: Register, Parish of Settrington, Yorkshire, England p. 35 SOURCES:
Cavaliers & Pioneers, Patent Book 6 p. 35 (arrival in America), p. 146.
John and his brother, Edmund, are listed with the names of their families.Mary
is listed as the daughter of Edmund and all the other children are listed herein
as the children of John, since some of the children are shown as belonging to
John in the Settrington Register. None of the children except Mary and John Jr.
are shown as having descendents in this work, therefore the matter of which
children belonged to which brother does not impact on the contents herein. The
children have been diligently researched with no success at this time. There was
a ten-year hiatus in the Parish register just prior to John coming to America.
Three of his known children did not accompany him to America, but that was the
time of the bubonic plague in England, and many children died, evidence of which
is contained in the Parish Register. John and Edmund were granted land on arrival
in America, 50 acres for each individual in the family, including children. Their
land was in Charles City county, VA on South side of James River, the area later
becoming Prince George's county. Mary, daughter of Edmund, married John Waller
III and their descendents lived alongside John's descendents for three
generations along the Mattaponi River in New Kent County, (organized in 1654),
later King William County, (organized in 1701), then Spotsylvania County,
Virginia (organized in 1720).
