William Keys Brother Thomas Key was married to Mary Grey. Mary Grey's sister Lady Jane Grey was the Queen of Englad when she was only 15. For Nine days in July 1553 she was Queen. She was the daughter of Henry Grey, duke of Suffolk and Frances Brandon, neice of Henry VIII. When she was 9 years old she entered the household of Henry VIII as an attendant on Queen Catherine Parr. On July 9 Northumblerland took Jane before the Privy Council and had her proclamied Queen on July 10. 9 days later the rest of the country proclaimed Mary the Queen.

William Key, died June 23, 1563 in Skagelthorpe, East Riding, Yorkshire, England.

NOTE: William Key died in Skagelthorpe, a village about 2 miles north of
Settrington, but was buried in Settrington Parish cemetery. There is no proof
that he was the father of the Keys in Settrington, only circumstantial evidence.
He is tentatively shown as the father in this data. There is considerable
evidence the children as shown were siblings.

Origin of the Key Name:
Karin, the McKey, is of course Irish and Scottish.The Key Family is found with
the spelling Key as early as 1068 in Yorkshire County, England.There were many
early spellings and derivations for the name.Some were Quay, Kei, Keese while
latter versions are Kea, Kee, Kay, Keyes, Keay and so on.Some have suggested
that the Keys are descended from the brother of King Arthur whose name was Sir
Quay.That of course is just that -- a suggestion which is not founded.This
line of the Key family is from Settrington, East Riding, England in Yorkshire
County.There was a John Key listed there in the Dooms Day Census of 1068.In
1668 another John Key arrived in Virginia.John's son, John Key, Jr.married
Mary Palmer, the daughter of Captain Martin Palmer.They had a son named Martin
Key, born about 1670. Martin's son, John Key married Martha Tandy and the rest is
well known history in the history of the Key Family which was described as the
