John Key 2 (b. June 26, 1653, d. 1711)

John Key, Jr. came to America with his parents in 1668 and was granted 50 acres
of land in Charles City County, Virginia.Mary Palmer was the daughter of Major
Martin Palmer and his wife, Mary.Martin Palmer and his family immigrated to
America in 1653.It appears the John Key, Jr. and his wife, Mary, may have died
a few years after they were married, as they had only one son, and no further
mention of them is found.Further, their son, Martin Key, was given land by his
grandfather when he was only 7 years old.John Jr. acquired 370 acres of land in
New Kent County, VA. on April 8, 1674 located on the NE side of the Mataponie
River adjacent to Major Wyatt and John Haines.Edmund Key was a witness.The

MARY PALMER married JOHN KEY, JR.
MARTIN PALMER SR., father of MARY PALMER was born about 1623, in England, and
came to Virginia about 1653, with his wife MARY and another MARY PALMER (perhaps
his daughter), as headrights of Major Joseph Croshaw, York County.By 1654, he
owned land in Pamunkey Neck next to Croshaw's patent and was a lieutenant in the
militia.Based on headrights, MARTIN PALMER, SR., was granted several patents in
New Kent County: 1300 acres in 1658 (now in King and Queen County); 400 acres in
1660 (now in King William County); and 608 acres in 1665.In 1682 he received a
confirmation grant of 1500 acres in New Kent County (now in King William
County).Part of this grant was later given to his grandson MARTIN KEY I.
In 1686, MARTIN PALMER, SR., was granted 1500 acres on the north side of the
upper Mattaponi River in New Kent County (now in Caroline County, formed in 1728,
below Spotsylvania, from upper parts of Essex, King and Queen, and King William
Counties) and established residence there.After the death of his wife, MARY, he
married three times (two wives were relicts of Captain Richard Croshaw, Brother
of Joseph, and William Corker) and died about 1702, leaving a son Martin, Jr.
born about 1660.
