Notes for Thomas 16 Newbold:
Thomas was baptized in St Peter's Church, Sheffield, England on May 29, 1672. He died before September 5, 1698, on which date his brothers Michael and James were granted letters of administration on his estate. Thomas was named in his father's will as one of the executors and residuary legatees, his portion consisting of the eastern two hundred acres of the Mansfield Township tract. In 1696, Thomas is known to have embarked for England at New York on the ship "Loyal Heathcote", probably to attempt recovery of the debts still owing to his father's estate, amounting to more than a fourth of the entire estate. The vessel never reached port. In the summer of 1696 it was reported that the ship had been captured by a French cruiser in the English channel and that her passengers had been carried to France as prisoners of war. Thomas died in prison.
