This site is dedicated to the genealogy of my maternal Snow family, and to my paternal Wyatt roots. The Snow family is represented by my great-great grandfather Samuel B. Snow, while the Wyatt line concentrates on my grandfather George Foster Wyatt.
Samuel B. Snow came to Texas from Tennessee about 1849. He was one of the pioneer settlers in the Shady Grove Community in Upshur County, Texas.
This research is based primarily on an informal family history, titled Snow Family Records prepared by Samuel's grandaughter Emma Snow, of Gilmer, Upshur Co., Texas. Emma's booklet was undated, but is assumed to have originated in the late 1950's or 1960's before she died in 1970.
The author has added to, and sometimes corrected, Emma Snow's work by interviews with family members, from census data, and from many references on the internet.Where there were disagreements in sources but with no clear evidence, the default was to Emma Snow's book as the most contemporary record.
George Foster Wyatt is descended from the Haute Wyatt line from Jamestown, VA. George was born in Americus, GA and settled in Texas between 1873 and 1875. He and his wife Nancy Indiana Mclendon from Alabama had 13 children, which has resulted in several hundred documented descendants to date. This collected genealogy is dependent on two major sources. One is based on the work by Susan C. Wyatt, great-granddaughter of George Foster Wyatt. (Her writings on the subject can be found in the Bibliography to the Family History of George Foster Wyatt book below). The second major source is from a relative named Frances Pyron Dance from Atlanta,GA, who worked in the 1930's and 1940's. Her extensive records are available on microfilm in the LDS Archives in Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition, much additional information was furnished to the author from living descendants, and was augmented by many sources on the Internet as well as census data.
This genealogy, as with most, is a work-in-progress.Any additions or corrections will be most appreciated.
