Notes for Thomas Yaxley:
[B32][F74] Shows a Thomas Yaxley with 4 hearths in the 1666 Hearth Tax - this is Thomas
There are admons [W66] for a Thomas and a William in 1690 which state that their father is Thomas Yaxley of Sheringham, a grocer. The admon also names one Robert Yaxley a worsted weaver of St. George Colegate, Norwich, which I have assumed is their brother Robert but maybe their uncle namely Robert .
The Admons for Thomas & William have the same date 9 Sep1690 which suggests the two brother died together. The burials do not appear in the Sheringham parish burial records. Nathaniel Bacon's records of Stiffkey records that some of the Yaxley at Sherringham were fishermen. There was a local dispute which he, as the local magistrate, administrated. This leads me to postulate that Thomas & William were sailors / fishermen and that they were probably "lost at sea" together. Hence no bodies to bury - hence no parish burial record?
No family are mentioned in the admons so probably neither of them were married. If not married both likely to be under 30 years of age. This gives DODs of after 1660.
They need to be of some age say over 21 years at least to have such possessions as to need an administration.
We know that Thomas is married by 1663 since this is stated in his father's Will [W50]
In his Will [W50] Thomas's father names a grandson William - possibly named after Elizabeth's father William Cooke - who must be born before 1663 to be named
Assume William born 1663, Thomas born 1665, & Robert 1668 letting Lawrence factual birth of 1670 fit neatly.
If Thomas married at age 25 to 30 gives eDOB 1632 to 1637.
It is interesting that Thomas married Elizabeth Cooke the daughter of William Cooke. Could it be William Cooke the grandson of John ?
[W27] is the Will of Thomas Yaxley of Sheringham, yeoman, made in 1724 with probate in 1728. In the Will he names his children in the order Lawrence , Robert , Edmund , Richard & Mary - exactly the birth order of the children of Thomas given that none of his daughters save Mary are mentioned. Thomas was born c1635 and died c1727 making him some 92 years of age.
He leaves houses and land in Sheringham to Lawrence & money to his other children to be paid them by Lawrence whom he makes his executor.
NOTE -The fact that the Will [W27] records that Thomas had a son Robert is important as the birth of Robert is not recorded anywhere else that has been found todate.
