Thomas Pitts was educated at Andover, Massachsuetts.Afterwards, he went into
business with his father.Mr. Pitts was a member of the SAR.Like his father,
Thomas achieved wealth in lumber, and became a leader in civic and cultural
circles.Under his presidency of the Detroit Museum of Art, from 1904 to 1906,
ground was broken for an additional wh9ich almost doubled the capacity of the
museum.His son and daguther were encouraged to take an interest in art, and
were sent to Europe for their education.Mr. Pitts died suddenly in
Pittsfield, MA, en route home following a visit to his daughter in Gloucester.
