Lendall Pitts was the last to bear the given name of his ancestor of
Revolutionary fame, leader of the Boston tea-party.He received the advantage
of being sent to Europe for his early education in Switzerland, Germany and
France.Like his forbears for more than one hundred and fifty years, he was
educated at Harvard University.Immediately after his graduation in 1897,
Lendall return France, to study under Jean Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant
at the old Academie Julian.
Lendall Pitss maintained his studio for some forty years in Paris.With his
wife, he was an active member of artistic circles in Paris.
Mr. Pitts was athletic and loved to climb the Alps, with paint-box strapped to
his back, to secure the view he wanted.The French made him a member of their
Societe des Peintres de Montagne.
Lendall Pitts was the last male member of the family whose roots go far back
into the beinning of this country.
