Search Instructions
1. Type in a keyword
- Case is ignored
- If you type multiple words, you will only find pages on which all of the words appear
- To locate words in a specific order, surround them with quotation marks, as in "Johnson County"
2. Select a category
- "Forum Posts" will give you content posted by GenForum contributors
- "Forums" will help you find one of the more than 200 thousand GenForum forums (try searching for a surname, location name or topic)
- "Forum Contributors" allows you to search by contributor names (search for names of contributors this category)
- "Articles” will help you discover articles
- "Family Tree Maker Pages” will return the best match for content previously published by Family Tree Maker
3. Browse the results
- If there are too many results, try to refine your search by adding more keywords
- You can sort content posted in GenForum by the date it was published (either newest to oldest, or oldest to newest)
- If you are looking for a post in a particular forum, you can also go to that forum and search by keyword to only get results in that forum
